Edward the Confessor (1042-1066), 'Trefoil Quadrilateral' Type, Penny, 1046-1048, Canterbury, Leofwine, + : EDPA•-• REI' • diademed and draped bust left, trefoil-tipped sceptre before, rev. + LEOFPINE ON ECNTE trefoil-tipped quadrilateral atop voided short cross, 0.96g [14.8grns], 10h (BEH 284/17; Taffs [1956], 93b = FEJ 163 same dies; obv. very fine / rev. fine, 15.6grns; SCBI 20 [Mack], 1136 [this coin]; SCBI 54 [Stockholm], 707 same dies; North 817; Spink 1174), spots of verdigris to the obverse and two peckmarks to the reverse, lightly toned, a really pleasingly good very fine, the mint signature unusual and extremely rare, only three examples traced, this with the finest pedigree
