Colonel John Biddulph († 24 December 1921), collection purchased en bloc by Baldwin, c. 1920 [with his ticket]

Biddulph, the well-known author and naturalist, retired from the service of Lord Northbrook, Viceroy of India, in 1896. His lengthy career began with the 19th Lancers at Awadh during the India Mutiny in 1857, and later participated in the Second Yarkand Mission (1873-1874) across the Himalayas to Chinese Turkestan. During this journey he discovered a hitherto unrecorded variety of jaybird, latter named podoces biddulphi in his honour. His authorship ranged from 'Tribes of the Hindoo Koosh' published in 1880, to 'The Pirates of Malabar, and 'An Englishwoman in India', both published in 1907.
