Lot: 7797

Kingdom of Parthia, Gotarzes I/Sinatrukes, (95-87BC/93-69BC) AR Drachm, Diademed and draped bust left, wearing tiara adorned with horns and stags rev. BASILEIOS/MEGA-LON/ARSAKOI/THEOPATROU/NIKATOROS, archer (Arsakes I) seated right, holding bow, 4.07g, (Shore, 113; Sellwood, 33/4 (both Gotarzes I)) lightly toned and lustrous, well-struck, some wear to reverse otherwise very fine. Ex. Gorny and Mosch Auktion 204/ n. 1625

From Numista: 'The absence of both a clear reference to Sinatrukes in the extant Babylonian cuneiform material and tetradrachms from Seleukeia indicates that he never held Babylonia and had no access to its royal mint. With this in mind, we may safely assign S33 drachms to him, as this emission alone out of the fourteen different "Dark Age" types (S29-41 and S44) lacks parallel tetradrachms.'
