Kingdom of Macedon, a Selection of Drachmae, (3): i) Philip III Arrhidaios Struck under Menander or Kleitos, in the types of Alexander III, Kolophon, c.323-319 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin headdress rev. PHILIIPPOY Zeus Aëtophoros enthroned left, holding sceptre, PA monogram to left field, 4.35g, (Price, P46; Muller, P135) slight tool mark to obverse right, but otherwise detailed and lustrous, bolder very fine; ii) Antigonos I Monophthalmos, Struck as Strategos of Asia, in the name and types of Alexander III, The Great, Abydos, c.310-301 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin headdress rev. ALEXANDROY Zeus Aëtophoros enthroned left, holding sceptre; monogram in left field, male head left, wearing Phrygian cap, beneath throne, 4.29g, (Price, 1577) softened but perfectly-centred and lustrous, very fine; iii) Another, Kolophon mint, as before, but with a crescent moon to the left field, and a P monogram beneath throne, 4.16g, (Price, 1813) some softening to higher points, good fine, (3).
