Kingdom of Epeiros, Alexander I, 'The Molossian', (342-326BC) AR Stater, after 334BC, Tarentum mint, oak-wreathed head of Zeus right, rev. ALEXANDROI/[TO]Y NEOPTOLEMOI winged thunderbolt divides legend, with spear-head right above, six-pointed star below, 9h, 6.67g, (Dewing, 1483 var. (star and spear-head); cf. Vlasto, pl. I, 8) toned and lustrous, well-struck and attractive, cuts at edge but neverthless a very fine example of considerable rarity. Minted during Alexander's campaign in Tarentum and skilfully rendered by a Tarentine engraver
