1853-56 cover front in the handwriting of Florence Nightingale, addressed to Dr. Holton in Colchester. Both had returned to England from Crimea, Ms Nightingale was the first civilian on the battlefield whose purpose was the care of the sick and the wounded, called the "Angel of Mercy" was the inspirational figure for Henri Dunant, founder of the Red Cross.
