188 (5 Jan.) entire Missionary letter from John Thomas, Methodist Missionary of the Wesleyan Society from Tongataboo, in the Tonga Archipelago addressed to The Wesleyan Missionary Society, Hatton garden, London. In the letter, Thomas defends himself against allegations of misconduct contained in the minutes of a survey conducted by the organisation's secretariat. The letter was sent by ship to Sydney where it was posted, marked with the circular 'sidney/ nsw/ a-5/1828' and marked manuscript 1/7, boxed 'ship-letter/ plymouth' hand stamp applied on reaching England, the letter reached London on 10th September, nine months after it was written.
