1895 (1 July) Mashonaland 1½d. card to Germany, uprated with 1892-94 2d., both cancelled by "679" barred numeral, showing "tati/matabeleland" c.d.s., Hamburg arrival d.s. (30.7) and, on reverse, Cape Town transit c.d.s. (9.7). Photo

Note: The postal services of the Tati District were transferred to the British South Africa Company in early 1894, although the district remained under the Bechuanaland administration. When the railway reached the northeastern border of the Protectorate, the Postal Agency in Tati was, in July 1897, transferred to Francistown, closer to the rail line. In July 1898, the Protectorate resumed control over postal services of the Tati District. BSAC adhesives and stationery were thus in use in the Tati District of the northeastern Protectorate between 1894 and 1898. There were only two postal offices/agencies affected (Tati 1894-97 and Francistown (1897-98).
