1919-1958 Seven bound scrapbooks of Frank O.Salisbury (1874-1962), English artist, portrait painter and famous for his large canvases of historical, national and ceremonial events. The contents reference his correspondence with Royal courtiers, Private Secretaries and leading personalities regarding his work.
ROYAL LETTERS - 1919-1958. Autograph memorandum from Queen Mary re the name of a sculptor, with envelope; the proofs and pencil used by her to sign the Message to the Nation following the death of King George V, pencil sketches re a memorial to the King; correspondence re the first sitting of Queen Elizabeth II in March 1952; 1935 JUBILEE THANKSGIVING SERVICE OF KING GEORGE V and QUEEN MARY 3 volumes. Salisbury painted a major work and these volumes contain letters received from prominent individuals including Ramsay MacDonald, Lucy Baldwin, Athlone, pencil sketches and far too many items to detail; his arranging for sittings and the responses.
1937 CORONATION PICTURE KING GEORGE VI AND QUEEN ELIZABETH 3 volumes. Correspondence to and from leading individuals regarding this painting including Dominion politicians, Indian personalities, artists and others, too numerous to mention.
