Whaling
1827 Insurance policy (part printed, part manuscript) for the whaling sloop "INDIA" for an expedition to the Pacific. The value of the ship and stores were insured for $7500, the premium paid was $562.50 (7.5%). Under the command of Captain Isaac X. Maxfield, the ship sailed from New Bedford on 21 December 1827 and returned without incident on 17 July 1830, with 2561 barrells of sperm whale in her hold.
The policy, issued by the New England Marine Insurance Company, is postally used from Boston to William Rotch and Co, Nantucket and New Bedford whalers (220x265mm)
