Autograph letter in French initialled V.H. with an accompanying letter in English written by Victor Schoelcher, French writer and journalist, advising that "I did not find any letter signed in full. I told you it is very seldom when Hugo signs in full. The enclosed has the two initials V.H. and is dated from Jersey which gives it an authenticity" (2)
