Duke and Duchess of Windsor
1951-1961 Group of letters and photographs sent to the 3rd Earl of Dudley (1894-1969), a close friend to Edward as Prince of Wales, King and later as Duke of Windsor.
Three typed letters signed "Edward" from Paris (2) and Waldorf Astoria Towers.
May 1951 the Duke refers to being "out of circulation until my book was published...I've had GP Putnam Sons forward you a copy, but you don't have to read it". He refers to the Duchess undergoing an operation; "the MacArthur incident that has exposed the bungling of the Far Eastern situation...Aneurin Bevan's resignation confirms how red he actually is. Winston was wise to postpone his visit to America."
November 1952 thanks Dudley for his hospitality during a shoot in England and hopes he'd join them on the "Queen Mary" to New York. December 1953 the Duke thanks Dudley for his hospitality and dinner at Quaglino's, hoping he would "stop at our modest 'moulin' next spring".
A signed 1955 birthday card to Dudley from the Duke has an inscription "But it's too bad that you will always be six months older than your old friend!!"
A July 1959 4pp letter from Wallis, initialled "W" on notepaper of the Moulin De la Tuilerie, discusses social arrangements. "I want to thank you for being so nice to my 'Romance' and keeping him from being alone."
With three telegrams, six photographs of casual beach and holiday scenes in Venice and elsewhere, and Lord Dudley's address book with many individuals of great prominence listed.
Together with a letter to Dudley from Col. F.W. Wagg enclosing a five page typescript of his thoughts on the Duke and Duchess and their treatment at the hands of the establishment that he wished to submit to the press.
