Hull Constabulary
1849-1858 The official notebook of Police Constable John Kilburn, Hull Constabulary, appointed in 1847. The contents detail many incidents - 1852 Walker convicted at York for stealing cash and sentenced to being transported and three women sentenced to 12 months hard labour for stealing. PC Kilburn was a colourful character who was punished for being drunk on duty, or found in a Public House, and asleep when he should've been on his beat. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1858. A fascinating item of social history (80x55mm, with a brass clasp)
