Sir Moses Montefiore Family
1812-1864 Group of documents relating to the financial affairs of the family and associates of the financier, banker and philanthropist Sir Moses Montefiore (1784-1885).
1812 "Settlement on the Intended Marriage of Solomon Sebag, Esq and Miss Sarah Montefiore" on large vellum, folded, signed by both, witnessed and signed by Moses Montefiore (brother), M. Mocotta, Benjamin Gompertz and Rachel Montefiore with their red wax seals. Sebag signs in Hebrew letters too. The document is registered at "10 Heneage Lane, Bevis Marks" per a filing endorsement. Attached to the 1812 document are a further three vellums relating to the second marriage of Sarah Sebag to Moses Asher Goldsmid in 1839 following the death of Solomon Sebag. Signed by leading members of the Sephardi Jewish community, Moses H. Keyser, Joseph Sebag, H. Guedalla, Henry L. Cohen. Complex legal documents relating to family trusts.
A further seven documents relate to the affairs of the family following the death of Sarah Goldsmith (nee Montefiore) in 1863, one signed by Sir Moses as a trustee of his sister's estate.
Included are four receipts dated November/December 1812 for Consolidated £3 per Cent. Annuities in the names of Montefiore, Mocatta, Gompertz, Macnin, one signed by Moses Montefiore.
