John Flaxman RA (1755-1826)
1790 Three page autograph letter written from the renowned sculptor in Rome to William Hayley at Chichester, postally used. Flaxman refers to the pursuit of his studies. "I am desirous to employ my time in filling my mind with ideas of the beautiful and great and in endeavouring to express them in my Art". He refers to Cassas "a French architect (who) resides here to finish the drawings he made in lower Egypt..." There are references to the Vatican Library and great treasures he has seen. He asks for his respects to be sent to Mr Romney. An important letter
