Signed James II and Samuel Pepys
1688 (24 May) military commission on vellum appointing Thomas Lagg second lieutenant of the "Mary"; signed at top by King James II as "King of England, Scotland, France and Ireland Defender of the Faith &c.", countersigned "S Pepys". Some typical foxing otherwise fine and a superb combination.

Notes: Pepys signs here as secretary of the Admiralty towards the end of his career, he would be forced out in the following year after the Revolution.
