1897-1900 2d. black and yellow bisected diagonally and tied to small piece by Tshiromo 11.03.98 d.s., the first date of isse for the 'Cheque' stamps; the piece with pencil note on reverse reading "J.W. Moir of BCA June 1901 guaranteed postall used J.B.A.". Offered together with 1897 1d. on 3/- with Tshiromo 10.05.98 d.s. and 1898 Setting II imperf. with control with Tshiromo 27.04.98 d.s. Most unusual

Notes: John William Moir, a well known local figure who had worked as a Joint manager of the African Lakes Corporation and later as a tea planter at Mlanje, would have been unable to authorise the use of a bisect and no authorisations are known. Some research suggests the possibility of a shortage of 1d. values at Tshiromo between the 10th and the 16th March.
