Notes: Harry Johnston and his force reached Karonga on 1 December 1895 and marched to Mlozi's Stockade; in the ensuing battle Alston received a shot to the helmet without injury. Mlozi was tried under Johnston's superintendence, found guilty, and sentenced to death, effectively ending slavery in Central Africa.
