1938 1½d. carmine red, horizontal pair variety imperforate between, large part original gum with some staining at lower left just showing through to the front and some light gum toning in a few other places not affecting the appearance; a great rarity. S.G. 29a, £30,000

Note: This pair is believed to come from the sheet purchased by Mr. Adam Thom at Mufulira Post Office in 1938. This, a second pair and a block of four, a photograph of which was found in the Sam Kelly collection, together with the unique block of twelve offered by Spink in April 2015, are the only examples of this very rare variety known. The current whereabouts of the Kelly photo block is not known. See "The Rhodesian Philatelist" No. 10, December 1995
