Watermark Small Crown, Perf. 16
1d., AA-EL block of sixty with 'Frank Ives Scudamore/ Chief Examiner' handstamp. Scudamore was appointed as the chief examiner by the Post Office in 1852. The handstamp was designed to render damaged sheets and stamps so cancelled unusable for postage, this being well illustrated within this block with the lower row of twelve (EA-EL) all damaged to a lesser or greater degree. Fascinating and one of the largest multiples known. Specialised CB, Page 250. Illustrated on Spink Live
