Mail to Jamaica
1861 (25 Jan.) entire letter to Jamaica, bearing 1860 pin-perf 14 (1d.) pale blue (2, one with perforations on all sides) cancelled by "1" obliterator, showing manuscript "3 more to pay", red crayon "1d pd", arrival c.d.s. (6.2) with, on reverse, despatch and St. Thomas (29.1) datestamps. A most unusual franking. S.G. 14. Photo

Note: Fitz Roett was of the opinion that the sender of the letter believed it was double weight and affixed the appropriated postage of 2d. for the inland rate. However, the postal authorities computed it was a single rate letter and duly credited the over-payment of 1d. towards the packet rate.
