AVGVSTA - VINDELIC across field, divided by seated Augusta left, holding state pinecone and spear, head turned facing, MDCCXLII and horse-shoes in exergue, edge plain, 3.40g, 11h (Eliasberg 225; Vetterle 1742.1; Forster 528; Wittelsbach 1969; KM 147; Fb. 94), slightly wavy flan, otherwise handsomely lustrous, a pleasing extremely fine, a popular European rarity, in NGC holder, graded MS61 (Cert. #6768684-029)

This Ducat was issued on behalf of Charles Albert of Bavaria, the last non-Hapsburg to contend for the increasingly worthless imperial throne. Frederick the Great used his candidature as a pretext to invade and seize the Austrian province of Silesia.
