The John Chatwin Collection | Edward the Confessor (1042-1066), 'Expanding Cross' Type, Heavy Issue, Penny, 1050-1053, Norwich, Leofwine, + EDPE-RD RE(CX), diademed and draped bust left, trefoil-tipped sceptre before, rev. :+: L•EOFPINE ON NORÐ short cross voided with expanding limbs joined at the base by two circles, 1.56g [24.07grns], 7h (Freeman 95; SCBI 18 [Copenhagen IV], 1134 same dies; North 823; BMC V; Spink 1177), converted into jewellery, the obverse rubbed flat, the reverse lightly gilded, fair / very fine, and of great socio-numismatic interest
