The John Chatwin Collection | Eadgar (959-975), Post-Reform, Penny, 973-975, Thetford, Ælfgar, + EADGAR REX ANGLOX, diademed and draped bust left, rev. + ÆLFGAR M¯O ÐEOTF, small cross pattée, 1.55g, 11h (SCBI 2 [Hunterian], 726; North 752; Spink 1141), in fragile state, chipped at 10 o'clock, with extensive rim and inner circle cracks at 4-6 o'clock, otherwise with dark-grey field patina, struck details approaching very fine, an extremely rare type for this moneyer with only two traced on EMC, both in institutional collections
