The 'Haddenham' Collection of English Coins | Æthelred II "Unræd" (978-1016), Standard 'Crux' Type, Penny, c. 991-997, Canterbury, Leofstan, + ÆDELRÆD REX ANGLORx, single-folded, draped bust left, trefoil-tipped 'thick' sceptre before, rev. + LEOFSTAN M-O CÆNT, voided short cross, C R V X in angles, commencing in second quarter, 1.41g [21.76grns], 6h (Hildebrand 220 [Type C]; SCBI 50 [Hermitage], 333; North 770; BMC IIIa [Coll. no. 24]; Spink 1148), the obverse legend partially double struck, with a small chip to edge at 1 o'clock, daylight spots to flan, otherwise staggeringly colourfully toned, struck detail about very fine, a prettier, albeit not problem-free example
