Roman Empire, Trajan (98-117), AV Aureus, struck AD 112-114, Rome, IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, rev. octastyle façade of the Basilica Ulpia with statues above colonnade: a facing quadriga in centre, standing warriors to left and right, facing biga to left and right, two signa to the far left and right, with an ornamented flat roof above the statues, BASILICA VLPIA in exergue, 7.00g, 6h (Cohen 41; RIC 247; Biaggi 466 same dies; Calicó 988 these dies; Jameson 91 same dies; Bunbury [1895], 587 = O'Hagan [1908], 260 same dies; Don I Soler [1925], 77 same dies), struck to celebrate the Foundation of the Basilica Ulpia in the Forum Trajano in AD 112 dedicated to the Gens Ulpii; unfortunately gouged and scuffed to reverse, otherwise well-centred for strike, strictly fine, but very rare
