Kingdom of Thrace, Lysimachos (323-281 BC), Early Posthumous Issue, AV Stater, struck c. 286-281 BC, Pella, diademed head of the deified Alexander III right, with Ammon horn, rev. BASILEIOS | LYSIMACHOS Athena enthroned left, Nike in right hand crowning name, left elbow resting on grounded, deocrated shield, transverse spear beyond, P under throne, monogram in left field, K in exergue, 8.57g [132.3grns], 2h (Marinescu, Early, Issue VII, 10 (dies E/i) [Byzantion]; Müller 504 var. [Pella, no exergual mark]; Thompson 241 [Pella] these dies; Jameson 2464 same dies; SNG Lockett 1247 [Sale lot 1164] same dies; HGC 3, 1373) scuffs in reverse right field and below chin, otherwise lustrous with slight flan warp and traces of doubling, beautifully struck up in high relief, about extremely fine, rare in this technically superb state

NB. The plate image clearly does not match the listed specimen, but was nevertheless the coin acquired by Spink on the present owner's behalf on 19 May 1964, lending the possibility to an 'exchange' taking place at the sale, much like that which befell the Rawlins Crown in 1977.
