(g) Victoria (1837-1901), Type IA, Shieldback Sovereign, 1842, Closed 2, Wide Date, London, first young head left, W.W. in relief on truncation, rev. crowned 'normal' shield in wreath, edge milled, 7.99g [123.4grns], 6h (MCE 502; Marsh 25; EGC 1061; Bentley 42; Spink 3852), small rim scuff, otherwise a beautifully balanced and delightfully wholesome example of this early date, lustrous with light pearlescent bloom, spots of tone with warm orange toning in recesses, extremely fine, rare in this honest high grade
