William I (1066-1087), 'Sword' Type, Penny, 1077-1080, Ipswich, Wulfweard, + PILLELMVS REX, crowned bust facing, holding sword, rev. + PVLFPORD ON GIPI, cross potent over voided quadrilateral fleury, 1.15g [17.7grns], 12h (SCBI -; North 846; BMC VI; Spink 1255), flatness to parts of the legends and with dark-toned surfaces, otherwise with a most pleasing portrait, a pleasingly bold very fine, the portrait better, an evidently extremely rare type for Ipswich with only one example of the contemporary Suffolk-moneyer Aelfric listed in SCBI and EMC
