Six: Colour Sergeant H. Lancaster, Duke of Wellington's Regiment, late York and Lancaster Regiment, who was wounded at Salerno and taken Prisoner-of-War

H. Lancaster served with the 6th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment with the number 14355009 during the Second World War. Seeing service with his battalion during the Salerno Landings, Lancaster was wounded there on 12 October 1943. He was later posted as missing in action (22 January 1944) and soon confirmed to be in German hands.

Lancaster spent the rest of the war at in Stalag 4f Harmansdorf, Chemnitz. He was liberated by the Americans in March 1945 and recalled for the Korean War with the Duke of Wellington's Regiment. He was later to serve as Company Quartermaster Sergeant at Gibraltar in 1955 with the same unit; sold together with copied casualty lists and a photograph of the '1st Battalion Duke of Wellington's WOs & Sgts Mess - Gibraltar 1955'.
