A Great War Combat Report of Captain E. Mannock, V.C., D.S.O. & two Bars, M.C. and Bar

Royal Air Force Combat Report, signed and dated for 18 May 1918, flying an S.E.5a D.278 at Steenwercke at 14,000ft. Pursuing a Halberstadt two seater, coloured yellow and black:

'This machine crossed my front going south from Mont des Cats. I then flew level and in same direction until well in front of E.A. I then turned and fired a burst of about 40 rounds at the machine as it passed at right angles. The E.A. went down nose first over the vertical and kept in that position until it struck the ground near Steenwercke, when it burst into flames. Capt. Cairnes confirms having seen it descend vertically from 14,000 feet and disappear through the mist.', some wear, very fine
