Three: Temporary Acting Sub-Lieutenant J. F. Glencross, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (Air)

1939-1945 Star; Defence and War Medals, unnamed as issued, mounted for wear, good very fine (3)

John Fetherstonhaugh Glencross appears to have served as an Observer in the Air branch of the R.N.V.R. during the Second World War, with the Navy List 1944 noting him as an officer at H.M.S. Drake, the naval barracks at Devonport. He also served at R.N.A.S. Fearn and acted as Observer on Barracuda aircraft. He died at Wenmouth Manor, St. Neot, Liskeard, in April 1979.

A corresponding set of mounted miniature Dress medals.

(ii)
A single R.N.V.R. tie-on epaulette, ranked to a Sub-Lieutenant with the designation 'A' inside the curl.

(iii)
A small 'hip-flask', engraved to the front base: 'S/Lt. (A) J. F. Glencross R.N.V.R. July 1945'.

(iv)
An Army officer's Service Dress cap, badged to the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, marked 'Glencross' to the inside lining, this with much evidence of moth damage.

(v)
A pair of binoculars, made by 'Bausch & Lomb Optical Company', of Rochester, New York, further marked 'Signal Corps U.S. Army', contained in a brown leather case with a compass to the top, stamped 'J. F. G.' to front.

(vi)
Two copies of the 'S. 1181 Observer's Note Book and Aircraft W/T Log', both with some annotations and containing a quantity of Axis and U.S. ship and aircraft recognition cards, a 1944-dated military map of the Forth, Clyde and Tay areas of Scotland.

(vii)
A framed photograph of Glencross and a Barracuda aircraft, with annotations, 350mm x 540mm.

(viii)
The recipient's Armorial Bearings, drawn up by the College of Arms, London, framed, on vellum, signed by Norroy and Ulster King of Arms, 310mm x 420mm.
