(x) Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Navarino (R. B. Harvey, Volr.), very fine, with silver riband buckle
Robert Beazley Harvey entered the Royal Navy in March 1827 and in October of that year found himself as a Volunteer aboard the 84-gun Asia at the Battle of Navarino. She was the flagship of the Allied fleet, under the overall command of Vice-Admiral Edward Codrington, and consequently in the thick of the fighting: her casualties of 85 killed and wounded were the greatest of any of the British vessels to participate in the action. Harvey passed for Lieutenant in 1833 and was promoted to that rank in 1841. Further advanced Commander in 1859 he retired on 29 December 1865 and was still alive in 1889.
