Roumania: Banca Marmorosch, Blank & Co., bearer share for 500 Lei, 1919, #57347, black with green underprint. Founded in 1848 by Jewish banker Jacob Marmorosch and Jacob Loebel, gaining this title in 1874. The bank grew in importance and its capital had risen to 30,000,000 lei by 1918. Following WWI there was an initial period of prosperity but when the depression hit after 1929 the bank was forced into liquidation with charges of fraud against Aristede Blank who managed the company. All banks in Romania were nationalised in 1948. VF.
