A Great War Purple Heart group of three awarded to Private F. J. 'Buddy' Brink, 69th Infantry, United States Army who was gassed at St. Mihiel, Verdun

United States of America, Purple Heart, engraved to the reverse (Fona J. Brink), further numbered to the edge '11492'; Victory Medal 1914-1919, 3 clasps, Defensive Sector, Meuse-Argonne, St. Mihiel; France, Republic, Verdun Medal, some contact wear and minor marks on the enamel, very fine (3)

Fona James Brink, known as 'Buddy', was born on 13 August 1891 at Cherokee, Crawford, Kansas the son of Thomas and Minnie Brink of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Brink worked as an Elevator Operator in Oklahoma City prior to his enlistment while living at 221 Wheeler Street. Enlisting on 28 June 1918 he joined the war in France with 69 Infantry. This unit saw very heavy fighting at Meuse-Argonne and later St. Mihiel and it was here that Brink earned his Purple Heart. He was gassed by the enemy but despite the effects of this he survived and kept serving until 24 January 1919. Brink lived until 25 November 1958, dying at Worley Funeral Home and being buried at Olympus Cemetery, Grove, Oklahoma; sold together with copied research including census records, Draft Registration card and Military Headstone Application as well as handwritten notes and a silver wound pin.
