(x) Volunteer Officer´s Decoration, V.R., (Lieut. Col. C. E. Smith. Jan 13th. 93. 2nd V.B.S.S. Regt.), silver, hallmarks for Birmingham 1892, with integral top riband bar, in its fitted Garrard & Co. case of issue, good very fine

Charles Edward Smith was commissioned Lieutenant with the 2nd Volunteer Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment on 1 June 1873. Promoted Captain on 21 June 1884, Major on 9 October 1886 and Lieutenant-Colonel on 9 April 1892 he was finally advanced Honorary Colonel on 15 May 1901, retiring that same year.
