A rare 1969 A.F.C. pair awarded to Squadron Leader J. Black, Royal Air Force, a helicopter instructor at the Central Flying School

John Black was born on 13 January 1925 and having served as a Flight Sergeant in Malaya, was commissioned Pilot Officer in the General Duties Branch on 7 February 1957. Black was advanced Flying Officer on 7 February 1960, Flight Lieutenant on 7 February 1963, Squadron Leader on 1 January 1969 and retired in that rank on 31 August 1973.

At the time of the award of his A.F.C., he was an Instructor with Standards Flight at the Central Flying School (Helicopters) based at Ternhill, Shropshire.
