Pair: Driver H. Lindsey, Royal Army Service Corps

Korea 1950-53 (T/22492329 Dvr. H. Lindsey. R.A.S.C.); U.N. Korea 1950-54, very fine (2)

Two Royal Army Service Corps Companies were raised and deployed from the U.K. during the Korean War 1950-53. Following the invasion of South Korea by North Korean forces in June 1950, 27 Brigade was despatched from Hong Kong in September to reinforce 24 United States Division. The following month, 78 Company, having been re-raised and mobilised as a Motor Ambulance Company and with a high percentage of Reservist soldiers, arrived in Korea to support 27 Brigade; with a detachment deployed to Japan to support the expanding British Commonwealth Forces Base. However, on arrival, it was used in the general transport role with a mixture of British soldiers and Korean civilian drivers. Later, it was reinforced by transport platoons from the Royal Canadian and Royal New Zealand Army Service Corps.

In October/November 1950, 29 Brigade Group arrived in Korea, supported by 57 Company RASC as the Brigade Group Transport Company and again had a high percentage of Reservists with a small Regular cadre. By mid 1951, there were now three Commonwealth Brigade Groups in Korea, which became the Commonwealth Division supported by a Divisional RASC Column consisting of 57 and 78 Companies RASC and a Royal Canadian ASC Company. In October 1951, 78 Company was relieved by a Royal New Zealand ASC Company. With the Armistice signed in July 1953, both the Commonwealth Division and the Divisional Column reduced in size and by early 1955, 57 Company, in cadre form, had relocated to the Commonwealth Base in Japan.
