John Henry Branch was born on 26 May 1920and worked as a sheet metal worker prior to enlistment on 21 November 1938 with the Royal Air Force. His certificate of service notes that he was particularly skilled in engineering and metal work with a handwritten comment stating:

'1949 Designed protector for fuel tank caps on Dakota a/c which was approved by F.E.A.F.'

His certificate goes on to confirm his entitlement, Branch was discharged to the reserve on 20 May 1951; sold together with original Certificate of Service, slip of issue for the General Service Medal and letter relating to the wearing of the award.
