British War and Victory Medals (21737 Pte. C. A. Crouch. E. Surr. R.), good very fine (2)
[D.C.M.] London Gazette 3 October 1918:
'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. An officer of another regiment, in an attempt to reach the front line from the support trench, was badly wounded by machine-gun fire. Private Crouch, who was one of the stretcher-bearers of the company, with great courage and self sacrificing devotion to duty, left his trench under heavy shell and machine-gun fire and managed to reach the wounded officer, whom he bandaged up and brought back singlehanded.'
Charles A Crouch enlisted on 31 January 1916, and is further entitled to a Silver War Badge, for he was discharged on 3 April 1919.
