George Jones entered the war in France with the 22nd Battalion, Cheshire Regiment on 15 December 1916 and suffered a gunshot wound to the back not long later. Transferring briefly to 64th Company, Labour Corps he was soon posted to the 2/5 Battalion, West Riding Regiment and was discharged on 23 February 1919.
