Herbert Joseph Chapman was born at London on 6 June 1893 and served in France from 3 December 1914. He was taken a Prisoner of War at Ghulevelt on 26 October 1917 whilst serving with 'A' Company, 9th Battalion, Devonshire Regiment and was transferred to the Special Reserve on 11 April 1919.
