Joseph Hamilton was born at Maryhill, Glasgow, Lanarkshire in 1894, the son of Robert and Mary Hamilton. He served with the 8th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders and entered the war in France on 9 July 1915. Hamilton was mortally wounded in action and died on 15 July 1916 and is buried at Vermelles British Cemetery, France.
