Pair: Private J. Bunting, Manchester Regiment, who was severely wounded in action by a gunshot to the head on 23 April 1917

James Bunting was born at Gorton, Lancashire in 1891 and worked as a Coal Miner prior to enlisting with the Manchester Regiment on 11 October 1912. He entered the war in France on 27 December 1914- thus just missing the entitlement for the Mons Star- and joined 2nd Battalion at the front. Posted to the 3rd Battalion Bunting returned to Britain, not returning to France until the next year on 30 August 1916 with the 2nd Battalion. Transferred to the 19th Battalion 11 September he served with them until being wounded in the head on 23 April 1917. Posted to the Regimental Depot while he convalesced Bunting returned to service on 1 July 1917, unfortunately his injury still troubled him and he was invalided from service on 22 October 1917.
