William Woodward was born in 1883 and served in France with the 1st Battalion on the outbreak of the Great War from 22 August 1914. Having transferred to the 10th Battalion, he was admitted to 34 Casualty Clearing Station on 3 July 1916 with a gunshot wound to the arm.
