Patrick McEwan was born at Dalry, Ayrshire in 1886 and worked as a miner prior to attesting on 18 May 1885. Joining the Army Reserve on 5 February 1897 and remobilised for Boer War service on 7 March 1900, being posted to the 1st Battalion, Highland Light Infantry in South Africa; sold together with copied medal rolls and service paper.
