George Albert Perry was born at Ford, Sussex on 28 December 1870, the son of James and Hannah Perry. Enlisting with the Royal Navy as a Sick Birth Attendant on 2 July 1890 by the launch of the Benin Expedition in 1897. Perry had joined the Edgar class cruiser St. George earlier that year with the rank of Sick Berth Steward and as such took part in the expedition. The ship's company and marine contingent of St. George took part in the fighting to clear the village of Ologbo and later march of the capital of Benin City.

Continuing to serve, he was promoted Chief Sick Berth Steward while at Gibraltar Hospital on 1 November 1907 but soon returned to the rank of Sick Berth Steward the next year on 15 February.

Stationed at the shore base Victory I at the outbreak of the Great War Perry was to see out much of the war here. He was demobilised n 7 June 1919having seen some brief service with H.M.S. Latona. Retiring to Portsmouth he died at 23 Suffolk Road, Southsea, Portsmouth on 25 October 1949; sold together with copied research including service papers, medal rolls and census data.
