The well-documented War Medal awarded to Major S. H. Windsor, King's African Rifles, late South Wales Borderers.

War Medal 1939-45, very fine

Stephen Hugh Windsor was born at Barry, Glamorgan on 27 May 1927, the son of Brigadier-General John Stephen Windsor M.C. Attesting with the Territorial Army on 8 August 1944, he served as a Cadet and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant with the South Wales Borderers on 16 February 1946 and posted to the Middle East on 28 May of that year.

Promoted Lieutenant while there on 27 May 1948 he joined the 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers in Eritrea on 18 October 1951 before returning to the U.K. Further advanced Captain while stationed with the British Army of the Rhine on 27 May 1954 he was posted back to the Regimental Depot in August. From there Windsor was posted to the 4th King's African Rifles in East Africa where he remained for over three years.

Returning to Britain on 23 November 1960 he saw a Company command with the 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers from 15 February 1961 and returned on 1 September 1964.

Territorial Attestation and a letter informing the recipient that he had been accepted for service.

Officer's Record of Service book with Soldier's Paybook.

Two Officer's Advance Books.

(iv)
A certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever.

(v)
Three certificates for training courses in signalling, support weapons and gas response.

(vi)
An elementary drill memory card.

(vii)
Copied London Gazette extracts.

(viii)
Census data and information relating to the recipient's father Brigadier-General J. S. Windsor.
