The well-documented Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque awarded in memory of Private T. P. Hunt, 2/8th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment who died of wounds on 6 June 1918 having suffered gunshot wounds to the head and arm on the morning of 1 June

Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque (Thomas Percy Hunt), very fine

Thomas Percy Hunt was born at Clifton on 17 October 1899. He served with the 2/8th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment and was in the line on 1 June 1918 when he was struck by several rounds at around 10:20 in the morning. Letters to his father initially downplay the seriousness of his injuries but upon arrive at No. 30 General Hospital, Calais the tone of these communications becomes grimmer. A final missive notes that:

'[...] your son Pte. P. Hunt became gradually worse yesterday and died at 10.20 p.m. I regret that you should have this trouble but it may comfort you to know that he was unconscious most of the time and therefore did not suffer much and he died quite peacefully.'

Tragically Hunt was not the only member of the family to die in the Great War with his brother Charles Herbert Hunt also dying of wounds the year previously on 21 July 1917. Hunt is buried at Les Baraques Military Cemetery, Sangatte.
