1914 Star (7252 Pte. W. D. Brooks. R. Innis: Fus.), sometime gilt, good very fine
William Davidson Brooks was born at Downpatrick, County Down on 30 October 1880, the son of John and Matilda Brooks, of 6 Tramway Street, Belfast. Having enlisted on 7 June 1906, he served in France with the 2nd Battalion, Inniskilling Fusiliers from 23 August 1914. Brooks was mortally wounded in action during the Battle of the Marne and died on 5 September 1914, being buried in the Verberie Communal Cemetery. His gravestone bears the inscription:
'THY WILL BE DONE'
He is also recorded on the Mariners Church War Memorial, Belfast.
